Problem
The client owned a cabin on a lake that could only be accessed via a steep pathway with switchbacks. The pathway was initially made of dirt. Whenever a heavy rainfall occurred it would channel the rainwater and create washouts. The driveway was eventually paved, but the washouts continued.
Solution
Controlling water flow and preventing surface erosion was key to solving this client’s problem. We dug trenches and then filled them with clean drain rock and drainpipe along the entire side of the driveway. We also covered all the side banks in geotextile fabric and armoured it with rock. This allowed the water to drain through the fabric, while preventing fine sediments from passing through. The end result is a beautiful rock-armoured driveway that no longer experiences washouts. The water flow is now directed through the drainpipe to safe, intended locations.
